Ultra-DrainSeals® FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

  • What temperatures can the Ultra-DrainSeal handle?  The typical operating range is -10°F to 220°F.  (-23°C to 104°C)

  • Where can they be used?  Ultra-DrainSeals can be used on storm drains, floor drains, trench drains or any flat area where it is necessary to keep out spills, liquids or other contaminants.  They should not be used in areas where they will be driven over by vehicles or equipment.

  • How long can they be left out?  Due to the urethane construction of the Ultra-DrainSeal, they should not be left outdoors for an extended period of time.  Extended UV exposure will degrade the product.  As a spill response product, it should only be used until the spill has been cleaned up or, if used as a preventative measure, until the potential spill source is removed.  If used, indoors, the Ultra-DrainSeal can be used for long-term applications but should be inspected periodically for proper placement, damage, etc.

  • Can it be used on a "textured" surface?  The Ultra-DrainSeal is made from a soft, pliable urethane material and can be used on a number of different types of surfaces.  Ideally, the surface would be smooth and free of debris providing the best seal possible.  This is not always possible especially in a spill response type situation.  On asphalt, uneven or textured surfaces, the seal may not be perfect but should still be very effective.

  • Are custom sizes available?  Custom sizes are available but minimum quantities are required.  Please call (800) 353-1611 for details.

  • Can they be cut to size?  Yes, Ultra-DrainSeals can be cut to fit drains with scissors or a utility knife.  Please note that the DrainSeal should be at least 6" larger than the drain it is covering to provide adequate coverage.

  • How should the DrainSeal be stored?  Store the Ultra-DrainSeal in the box that it comes in.  Keep it rolled up with the plastic film on both sides of the unit.  The Ultra-DrainSeal should be stored at room temperature out of direct sunlight.  The DrainSeal WallMount is also available for storage and a quick, "grab and go" solution for spill responders.

  • Can I reuse the Ultra-DrainSeal?  Yes, the DrainSeal can be reused repeatedly.  The unit must be cleaned and allowed to dry prior to storage/reuse.

  • How do I clean the DrainSeal after it's been used?  In most instances soap and water is all that is required to properly clean the DrainSeal after use.
