Ultra-SpillDeck FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

  • Can you reuse a bladder?  No.  Spilled liquids will more than likely cause the internal surfaces of the bladder to adhere to each other.  We cannot guarantee the proper deployment of a reused bladder.

  • How do you get spillage out of the sump / bladder?  We recommend using a pump (UltraTech part# 2345 can be used) to remove any spilled contents from a sump or bladder.  (Note:  spillage should be pumped into an approved container)

  • How does the ramp connect to the decks?  The SpillDeck Ramp (part# 1089) comes complete with two steel clips that quickly install on the end of the ramp.  These clips hook onto the connecting SpillDeck and keep the ramp from moving or shifting during loading or unloading.

  • I need to add another SpillDeck to the one I already have.  How do I do that?  What do I need?  Other than the SpillDeck, you’ll need one Bulkhead Fitting (part# 1073) and one T-Strip (part# 1131) for every 26” of SpillDeck length that is connected.  For example if you’re connecting a 4-Drum SpillDeck to another 4-Drum SpillDeck you would need two Bulkhead Fittings and two T-Strips.  If, on the other hand, you were connecting a 1-Drum SpillDeck to the short end of a 2-Drum SpillDeck, you would only need one each of the Bulkhead Fitting and T-Strip.

  • The SpillDeck that I bought previously does not have any holes to put the Bulkhead Fitting through.  Can I drill holes myself?  Yes.  All that is required is a 1 9/16” hole saw (1 ½” will also work).  On each side of the Ultra-SpillDecks are “dimpled” areas that indicate where holes are to be drilled.  Center the hole saw on the area you need to be drilled and carefully cut the hole(s) for your Bulkhead Fittings.   File or “flame” any rough or sharp edges prior to connecting.  For more detailed instruction please click here.

  • What are sidewall plugs for?  Sidewall Plugs (part# 2221) can be used if you are no longer connecting a SpillDeck and therefore have a hole that needs to be plugged.

  • Is the deck slip resistant?  Yes, all grating surfaces on the SpillDecks are slip resistant.

  • What does a t-strip do?  The T-Strips lay across the point where two SpillDecks come together.  By “bridging the gap” this piece diverts spills to either of the Decks and keeps any spillage from getting between the units.

  • How many Bulkhead Fittings and T-strips do I need?  One for each 26” of SpillDeck that is being connected.

  • Does the Ultra-SpillDeck’s sump capacity meet regulations?  (Note:  The answer to this question is based on one assumption:  That the SpillDecks are being used with 55-gallon drums).  All of the SpillDeck Bladder Systems meet EPA requirements.  The InLine SpillDeck Systems meet EPA requirements.  By themselves, the 1-Drum, 2-Drum and 4-Drum SpillDecks do not meet EPA requirements.  They must be connected to an UltraTech bladder or another Ultra-SpillDeck to increase the total sump capacity to 55 gallons minimum.  For more information on the EPA regulations, please click here.

  • What is the size of the grating? Ultra-SpillDeck Plus Models use a grating that is 52"L x 26"W x 4"H.  All other SpillDecks use a grating that is 48"L x 24"W x 2.5"H.

  • I need to replace my bladder.  What should I order?  What's the difference between a Replacement Bladder and a Bladder Attachment?  The Replacement Bladder (part# 6340) is what you would need to order.  It is just the Bladder and does not include the outer housing.  The Bladder Attachment (part# 2317) includes a Bladder and the outside housing.
