Why would I choose the Ultra-Curb Guard Insert Style instead of another product?
One advantage is that the Curb Guard, Insert Style is it has the lowest profile of any of the stormwater products designed for a curb inlet. In other words, it extends out into the street less than any other product. This is beneficial for pedestrian safety as well and will prevent the unit from being damaged by street sweepers.
Another advantage is the Curb Guard's ability to remove hydrocarbons (oil, grease, fuel, etc) from the stormwater flow. It is the ONLY curb inlet product that has that ability (an argument could be made for the Ultra-Filter Socks but that's a different type of product).
Why do you use X-Tex for this product?
X-Tex removes oil and other hydrocarbons much faster than traditional absorbents. A polypropylene sorbent material will not allow water to freely pass through it. Oil will absorb at the surface of a polypropylene absorbent, and the polypropylene will eventually blind over and the center will not absorb any oil.
How much oil can the Ultra-Curb Guard, Insert Style absorb?
Part# 9760 can absorb up to 1.0 gallon of hydrocarbons (oil, grease, fuel, etc) and Part# 9761 can absorb up to 1.6 gallons.
How do I know if the Ultra-Curb Guard, Insert Style is saturated and needs to be replaced?
You can tell if the Curb Guard is saturated by simply pinching it in a few locations and noting if any oil or oily water is produced.
Do I have to replace the entire unit or can I just replace the X-Tex filtering material?
The entire unit does not need to be replaced. Replacement filter material is available in 4-packs.
